I’m a Hindu woman and a Muslim man promised to marry me and we had a physical relationship. He denied his promise after two years and married another woman eight months ago. He keeps saying he’ll divorce her and marry me. He deceived me for two and a half years. Now, his wife is eight months pregnant. I feel misled and hurt. He ruined my life. I filed a case and he spent a month in jail before getting bail. What are my legal rights?

You have legal recourse against the man for deceit and breach of promise. You can seek compensation for emotional distress and reputational damage. The man’s current marriage and wife’s pregnancy are not legal barriers to your claim. However, his ongoing promise to marry you may complicate the case.
