If someone is accused of attempted murder and has confessed, but the case is still under investigation, how long can they be held in custody? The victims are recovering in the hospital, and the accused has threatened to harm someone else from jail. Can the police release the accused after only a few weeks, even with the ongoing threats? If so, what steps can be taken to ensure the accused remains in custody until the case is resolved?

Under Indian law, an accused can be held in custody for a maximum of 90 days during an investigation. However, if there is a credible threat to harm someone else, the police can apply for an extension of custody. They can also seek a court order to keep the accused in custody for the duration of the investigation, considering the seriousness of the offense and the threat posed.
