I sold my car to someone six months ago, taking a 40% advance payment. I handed over the car and all the documents, agreeing to receive the remaining payment after they transferred ownership to their name. However, they haven’t done either, even after repeated requests. They’re driving the car using my registration. What legal options do I have in India to address this situation?

You can file a criminal complaint for cheating and criminal breach of trust against the buyer under the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, you can file a civil suit for recovery of the remaining payment and to get the vehicle registration transferred to the buyer’s name.
