I reported a theft of important documents (like IDs) to the Chandigarh police and filed a DDR. I included all the details in the letter I gave them. They received it, noted it in their register, and gave me back the signed copy. However, I accidentally gave them an old temporary address. The next day, I asked them to correct the address in my DDR. They changed it, gave me the updated DDR back, but didn’t change the date or update their register. How can I ensure my address change is properly recorded?

You should insist on the police updating their register with the correct address and the date of the correction. You can ask for a written acknowledgement from them regarding the updated address and date. If they refuse, you can escalate the matter to their senior officer or file a formal complaint about the negligence.
