I lent ₹40,000 to a relative, in two installments of ₹20,000 on January 9th and 11th, 2016. They promised to repay by September 20th, 2016, and later extended it to January 20th, 2017. I’ve reminded them about the repayment, but they are now refusing and even using abusive language.
I have proof of the transactions through bank statements and audio recordings of their scolding. My friends were witnesses to the loan. How do I proceed legally, considering the situation? I want to take action against them, but I am hesitant due to our family ties. Their behavior has caused me a lot of distress.

You can file a civil suit in a court of competent jurisdiction to recover the ₹40,000 loan. You have strong evidence with bank statements, audio recordings, and witness testimonies. Consider mediation or an amicable settlement before resorting to litigation, keeping in mind the emotional impact on your family relationship.
