I lent ₹30,000 to a government employee, a police officer, as a friendly loan. He repaid half the amount in installments but hasn’t paid anything for the last six months. Today, I deposited a ₹20,000 cheque he gave me, but the bank bounced it due to insufficient funds. What legal options do I have to recover my money and hold him accountable for his actions?

You can file a civil suit in a court of competent jurisdiction to recover the remaining ₹15,000 loan amount and any applicable interest. You can also pursue criminal charges under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, for the bounced cheque.
