Our Kolkata hotel installed Godrej card locks five years ago. Three months ago, Godrej Service emailed us about upgrading the locks as they’ve stopped supplying them. They also said they won’t provide any software support, even if we don’t want hardware upgrades. Can they cut off software support for their hardware without giving us enough time? Replacing all the locks would be very costly.

Under Indian law, Godrej cannot abruptly cut off software support for their hardware without reasonable notice. They must provide a fair opportunity for you to upgrade or find alternative solutions. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 protects consumers against unfair trade practices like this. You can contact Godrej and negotiate a reasonable timeframe for continued support or explore legal options if they refuse.
