My sister’s wedding was planned, and my father booked a tent house for ₹3 lakhs, paying ₹10,000 upfront. Two weeks later, the owner requested another ₹1 lakh in advance, which my father paid by cheque. Sadly, the wedding was called off a week later, and my father has been trying to get his money back for the past 18 months. The tent house owner keeps promising to return the money but never does. What legal options does my father have to recover the money?

Your father can file a civil suit for recovery of the money paid to the tent house owner. He can claim damages for breach of contract and also seek compensation for the mental harassment caused due to the non-refund of the money. He should provide evidence of the payments made and the agreement with the tent house owner.
