Unfortunately, registering http://www.xyz.co.in and getting it trademarked won’t automatically stop your friend from using http://www.xyz.com. Domain names and trademarks are separate legal entities in India. You would need to prove that your friend is infringing on your trademark rights or that you have a prior claim to the http://www.xyz.com domain name.
