I’m planning to study abroad and contacted an agency. My budget was clear: I wanted the entire program (living, tuition, everything) to cost between 12-15 lakhs. They suggested Paris and Canada.
I paid their non-refundable service fee, expecting them to find suitable colleges within my budget. Now, they’re saying the cost is 12-15 lakhs per year for a 2-year course! That’s double what I was told initially.
I feel misled and stuck. The agency’s service fee covers only one year, and I have no proof of our earlier conversations. What can I do? I’m worried I’ve been cheated.

Based on your limited budget and the agency’s apparent misrepresentation, you may have grounds to file a complaint with the Consumer Forum under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. You can also attempt to negotiate with the agency for a revised agreement or a refund of the service fee, citing their failure to meet your specific budget requirements.
