I booked four domestic Air India flights for a round trip from Hyderabad to Delhi through AkbarTravels.com on August 19th, for travel dates in late November. The flights were booked over three months in advance. Within three hours, I realized I had mistakenly booked the wrong travel dates – I needed to fly a week later. I immediately contacted both Air India and AkbarTravels to reschedule the flights with the same airline. However, I was surprised to learn that I’d have to pay ₹7,200 for all four flights, almost half the original ticket price! Many international and even some domestic airlines don’t charge for reschedules within 24 hours.

Under Indian law, airlines have the right to charge for flight changes, including reschedules, regardless of the time frame. While international airlines often have more flexible policies, Indian domestic airlines, including Air India, are not obligated to waive fees for reschedules even within 24 hours. This is due to factors such as dynamic pricing and potential loss of revenue.
