We got married in 2013 but initially lived with my in-laws. In January 2016, we decided to live together. However, just a week later, my father-in-law filed a police complaint against me. My wife gave a statement saying she lived with me willingly and loved me. This led to the case being dismissed. My in-laws then took my wife away. I filed for her release, and the court ordered her to be brought to court. She confirmed the marriage was consensual. The court ruled that she could live with me, but she insisted on staying with her parents. Since she was an adult, the court dismissed the case. How can I ensure my in-laws don’t force her into another marriage within the next few years? I just want to be engaged to her.

Indian law does not currently offer a mechanism to prevent your in-laws from pressuring your wife into another marriage. However, you can record any instances of coercion or threats, which could be used as evidence in future legal proceedings. Consider filing for a protection order against your in-laws if their actions escalate.
