My neighbor’s dog is constantly tied up right outside my window, day and night. We’ve spoken to them directly, received notices from the municipality, and even filed a police complaint. Despite this, they refuse to free the dog, keep it inside, or consider adoption, claiming they spent ₹10,000 on it. This situation has forced us to keep half our rented house closed. What legal options do I have? Could I sue them and seek compensation for the inconvenience? Please advise.

Under Indian law, you can file a civil suit for nuisance against your neighbor. You can seek compensation for the inconvenience caused by the dog’s constant presence, including the inability to fully use your rented property. However, the court will consider factors like the dog’s behavior and the efforts made to resolve the issue amicably.
