Under Indian law, family members are generally not liable for the debts of an individual, even if they are related. Therefore, Shyam’s family would not be responsible for paying the compensation awarded to Ram. Ram would have to explore other legal avenues to recover the amount, such as pursuing Shyam’s assets.
