My husband and I are going through a divorce, and we agreed that he’ll have custody of our 7-year-old son. However, he decides when I can see him. Can I ask the court to give me permanent custody of our child?

You can approach the court to seek permanent custody of your son, but the court will consider the best interests of the child, including their relationship with both parents, and the reasons for the initial custody agreement. The court may decide to grant you custody if it believes it’s in your son’s best interest.
