My uncle, my mother’s brother, filed a case against me. He claims I gave him a cheque back in 1992 for a business deal my father had with him. I wrote a simple note on the cheque stating it was for the bank’s transactions. Will his case hold up?

Under the Limitation Act of 1963, the limitation period for filing a suit for recovery of money is three years. Since your uncle filed the case in 2023, it is beyond the limitation period, and the case is likely to be dismissed as time-barred. The note on the cheque could also be used as evidence to support your case.
