My friend and I have a joint bank account. We both signed a cheque, but it bounced due to insufficient funds. The person we wrote the cheque to is now threatening legal action against us. I’m willing to pay half the amount, but my friend refuses to pay his share. What legal options do I have in this situation?

Under Indian law, you are jointly liable for the bounced cheque. You can try to settle the matter with the payee by paying your half, but your friend’s refusal to pay his share will leave you liable for the full amount. You can consider filing a civil suit against your friend to recover his share of the debt.
