I’m a 79-year-old senior citizen struggling with arthritis. Back in September 2016, I sold a few barely used carpets to a woman in Delhi for Rs. 12,000. She gave me a cheque dated October 15th, 2016. I trusted her and deposited it in my SBI account at Maya Enclave, but it bounced due to insufficient funds. I called her, and she promised to pay on December 5th, 2016. Despite repeated calls, she hasn’t paid. Knowing my age and condition, she seems to have taken advantage of me. What legal options do I have?

You have a strong legal case under the Indian Negotiable Instruments Act. You can file a criminal complaint against the woman for issuing a bad cheque. Additionally, you can file a civil suit for recovery of the Rs. 12,000, which includes legal fees and compensation for mental harassment.
