I lent ₹3 lakh to someone for granite block production at a 2% interest rate. They gave me a blank cheque. I’m due to receive 18 months of interest, which comes to ₹1 lakh and 8 thousand. Can I fill in the cheque with ₹4 lakh and 18 thousand, my original loan plus the interest, and deposit it for collection? The borrower keeps promising to pay soon, but it’s been a while.

You cannot legally fill the cheque for the entire amount. Filling a cheque for an amount exceeding the original amount is considered fraudulent and could lead to legal consequences. You can explore legal options like filing a civil suit to recover your loan and interest.
