Dear Sir/Madam,
My tenant issued me a cheque for ₹18,000 on June 11, 2016, for past due rent. The cheque bounced, and he left my property without informing me, moving to an unknown location. He also changed his mobile number.
I’m unsure how to serve him a legal notice regarding the bounced cheque. Can I send it to the address in the rental agreement, which is his father’s residence, even though his father may refuse to accept it? Or can I get his current address through his bank? Would seeking police assistance to locate him be necessary?
Thank you for your guidance.

Under Indian law, you can serve the legal notice to the address mentioned in the rental agreement, even if the tenant no longer resides there. You can also try contacting the bank to obtain his current address, but they may not be able to disclose it due to privacy concerns. If you are unable to locate the tenant, you may consider seeking police assistance to locate him and serve the notice.
