I’m planning to apply for local discharge from the Indian Army. Can you explain the rules and procedure for this? Who has the authority to grant local discharge, besides the commanding officer, like a soldier board or a parliament member?

Local discharge in the Indian Army is granted by the Commanding Officer based on specific grounds like medical unfitness, hardship, or family emergencies. While the soldier board may recommend a local discharge, they do not have the authority to grant it. Parliament members are not involved in the process.
