I was medically discharged from the Indian Air Force in 1976 due to a condition deemed neither service-related nor aggravated by service. I’m a former NDA cadet from the pilots’ branch and received only invalidment gratuity. Sadly, I was not provided with my medical board papers. Prior to my commissioning in 1972, and even afterwards, I had no pre-existing disabilities. My only medical incident was a fainting episode on March 30, 1972, at Air Force Station Kumbhigram, Mizoram, following an air maintenance sortie. Kumbhigram was a declared war zone until March 31, 1972. I’ve been seeking answers from the Air Chief for the past two years, but haven’t received any response. Could you please offer some advice?

You have the right to access your medical board papers under the Right to Information Act, 2005. You should file an RTI application with the Indian Air Force seeking your medical board papers and the medical reports related to your discharge. Additionally, you can approach the Armed Forces Tribunal for redressal if your RTI application is not responded to or if you are dissatisfied with the response.
