My passport application is stuck because of a police verification issue. I was at work when the verification officer visited my home. My elderly parents were there and told them I might be at work or at my wife’s mother’s house (our child is 9 months old). The officer left a note asking me to visit the police station. I went there with all my documents two days later, but they said I don’t live at my own house and stay at my in-laws’ place. I explained I was at work during the visit and provided proof, but the verification department sent an adverse report and a show cause notice. What should I do?

Indian law prioritizes the child’s welfare and generally encourages parental involvement. It is highly unlikely a court would completely bar a parent from seeing or communicating with their child. While a custody order can specify visitation terms, entirely prohibiting access is extremely rare and would require compelling evidence of harm to the child.
