How To Apply For A Senior Citizen Pension

To apply for a Senior Citizen Pension in India, specifically under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), follow these detailed steps:

To register online, Download the UMANG App or visit the website https://web.umang.gov.in/web_new/home.

  1. Login using your mobile number and OTP.
  2. Once logged in, search for NSAP (National Social Assistance Programme).
  3. Click on “Apply Online”.
  4. Fill in the basic details, choose the mode of pension payment, upload a photo, and click “Submit”.

Offline Application Process

  1. Visit the nearest government office, typically the district or block level office of the Department of Social Welfare or Rural Development.
  2. You can also download the application form from the official website of the concerned department.
  3. Complete the application form with necessary details.
  4. Attach the following documents: Proof of age (e.g., birth certificate, Aadhaar card), Identity proof (e.g., Aadhaar card, Voter ID), Residential proof (e.g., electricity bill, ration card), Bank passbook, BPL card (if applicable)
  5. Submit the filled form along with the attached documents to the designated government office.
  6.  Make sure to keep a copy of the submitted form and documents for your records.
  7. After submission, regularly check the status of your application with the concerned department. Once approved, you will start receiving the pension.

The pension amount may vary by state, so check the official website for specific details related to your state. To apply for a senior citizen card one must be at least 60 years old and belong to a household living Below Poverty Line (BPL). Additionally, one must be a citizen of India.
