My brother’s wife’s brother has a Scheduled Caste certificate, though our family belongs to the Naicker caste, which isn’t listed in the Karnataka Gazette. He’s lived rent-free on our land for two decades, in a separate house on our compound. Now he’s claiming a share of the property. After we refused, he filed a caste-based humiliation case against my brothers at the local police station. We’re unable to evict him as there’s no rental agreement.

If the divorce was settled amicably and your husband agreed to pay ₹2 lakhs, this agreement likely constitutes a legally binding contract. He cannot unilaterally back out of the agreement. You can seek enforcement of the agreement through the court, including specific performance of the divorce decree and payment of the agreed-upon amount.
