I worked for a large Indian IT company, listed on both the Bombay and National Stock Exchanges, with an office in Mumbai. My appointment letter was from Gurgaon, but I was based in Patiala for a project. In 2012-2013, the company stopped paying my salary, even though they promised to catch up soon. Because of this, I had to resign and was relieved according to company policy. I’m from Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Can I file a lawsuit in Bharatpur to recover my unpaid salary? If the company closes down, what steps can I take to get my money?

You can file a lawsuit for unpaid salary in a court with jurisdiction over your place of work (Patiala) or where the company’s registered office is (Gurgaon). If the company closes down, you can pursue your claim in the liquidation proceedings, if any, or file a claim with the company’s liquidator.
