We’ve been married for almost three years now, both of us in our second marriage. My husband has a controlling nature, often berating me when things aren’t his way. Recently, he’s started accusing me of infidelity, even bringing up my past. This has taken a toll on me, leading to depression. He even calls me crazy. We’ve been living separately for a year now, and he hasn’t even visited our son. Now, he wants a divorce on mutual terms without any financial support. I’ve tried to convince him for couples counselling, but he refuses. A psychiatrist confirmed he might be dealing with paranoia.

Under Indian law, you have grounds for divorce based on your husband’s cruelty and mental cruelty. While a mutual consent divorce is possible, you are entitled to financial support and alimony, including for your son, even in a mutual divorce.
