Dear Sir/Madam,
My father wrote a cheque for a sum of money to a person, but unfortunately, it bounced due to insufficient funds. We have received a notice from their advocate requesting payment within three months. Could you advise on how we should respond to this notice?
Additionally, the cheque was drawn from a joint account held by my father and mother. The notice has also been sent to my mother, who was unaware of this transaction. Can I contest the notice served on my mother as she has no involvement in this matter?
Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You should respond to the notice within the stipulated time, acknowledging receipt and informing the advocate about the bounced cheque due to insufficient funds. Regarding your mother, you can contest the notice as she was not aware of the transaction and the joint account doesn’t automatically imply her involvement in this particular transaction.
